“I love to paint En Plein Air”

En plein air is a french expression which means "in the open air" and is used to describe the act of painting outdoors on location.

“Sunrises, Sunsets and Big Vistas are a few of my favorite things”

“I consider a painting successful when it evokes or captures a certain mood or feeling that the viewer gets caught up or "lost" in. I feel it is important to make this emotional connection through my art.

To capture a fleeting moment in time, conveying the beauty of a place, the peace and stillness of a sunrise, or the vastness and grandeur of a big vista... these are just some of the many reasons I am passionate about painting outdoors.

I am so grateful to be able to do what I love and to be able to share the way I see and feel about the world through my paintings".  Tarryl

A little more about the artist....
by Thomas Cale, co-publisher of Rhinebeck Living Magazine

If you’ve been around the art scene in the Hudson Valley at all, you know Tarryl  Gabel’s work. She’s been living, painting, and showcasing her work in the area for many years. She’s won countless awards, shown her work around the country and abroad, and even painted an ornament for the White House Christmas Tree. Tarryl was born and raised on a cattle ranch on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation in North Dakota, where she began painting at an early age. After making the Hudson Valley her home in the late 80’s, Tarryl began plein air painting and her style shifted towards that of the Hudson River School of Painters. Her current work reflects the landmarks and beautiful landscapes of this region, as well as the Catskills, Adirondacks and the New England States. Tarryl also paints wildlife, western and Native American themed imagery, and keeps busy with studio and commissioned work when she cannot be outdoors.

Honored to have been voted "Best Artist- Best of the Hudson Valley” by the readers of Hudson Valley Magazine
