I love to paint En Plein Air....
"En plein air" is a french expression which means "in the open air",
and is used to describe the act of painting outdoors on location.
~Sunrises, Sunsets and Big Vistas are a few of my favorite things~
"I consider a painting successful when it evokes or captures a certain mood or feeling that the viewer gets caught up or “lost” in. I feel it is important to make this emotional connection through my art. To capture a fleeting moment in time, conveying the beauty of a place, the peace and stillness of a sunrise, or the vastness and grandeur of a big vista. These are just some of the reasons I am passionate about painting outdoors.
Tarryl Gabel, a resident of Hyde Park, NY, was born and raised on a cattle ranch on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation, North Dakota, and she is an enrolled member of the Hidatsa Tribe. She began painting at an early age and has been greatly influenced by her grandfather, a self-taught western artist, and by the native culture. Making the Hudson Valley her home, twelve years ago Tarryl began plein air painting, and her influence has shifted more towards the style of the Hudson River School of Painters. Her work is now centered more around the landmarks and beautiful landscapes of this region, as well as the Catskills, Adirondacks and the New England States. Tarryl also paints wildlife, western and Native American themed, as well as still life works when she cannot be outside. Her work is displayed in private collections and corporate settings around the country and abroad.

"I had the good fortune to be chosen to paint an ornament for the White House Christmas Tree.
Our Country’s National Parks was the theme of the decorations that year. I was asked to paint an ornament to represent the Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Home. My husband and I were invited to, and attended, a special reception at the White House. The ornament will remain as part of the White House's Permanent Collection."
